XPENG just commissioned its advanced general-purpose humanoid production line. More than 80% of core processes automated, according to the company. Automotive-grade quality systems. And its IRON robot walked off the line on its own after assembly.

Specs: 76 degrees of freedom, 21 per hand, three Turing AI chips at up to 2,250 TOPS. XPENG says more humanoid capabilities are coming, too. Very curious to see those.

Mass production targeted by end of 2026. Deliveries in China and overseas planned for 2027. Its robotics unit announced over $900M in funding at a $6.3B+ valuation just two weeks ago.

Tesla’s Optimus makes this especially interesting. Both companies have spent years figuring out how to manufacture cars at scale. Now they’re applying that experience to robots, where tiny differences in assembly can affect how well a hand grips or a body moves.

XPENG designed the robot and its production line together. That’s a big part of why I’m excited about this. Building thousands of these machines means getting the same precision over and over, at a cost that makes sense. I want to see how both XPENG and Tesla pull that off, and what their robots can actually do for customers.

Today, IRON walked off the line on its own. That’s a strong day for Physical AI! Absolutely fantastic!
