Theguardian: A Microsoft-linked AI datacenter DataOne was fined $1.07M by New Jersey over 62 unpermitted natural-gas generators.

The New Jersey department of environmental protection (NJDEP) calls it New Jersey’s largest-ever enforcement action against a datacenter.

A July 29 inspection found the generators, and a later Floodlight thermal-drone investigation showed at least 45 operating simultaneously.

DataOne disputes the state’s temporary-generator determination but says it will seek permits, while permanent onsite power is planned around Bloom Energy fuel cells.
