Anthropic is in early talks to lease up to 1GW in compute capacity from a data centre developer majority-owned by Apollo Global Management (APO).

Anthropic could fill the facilities with Google TPUs co-designed with Broadcom, while Nvidia GPUs are also under discussion, according to the report.

Anthropic is trying to bypass more of the traditional cloud-provider layer, which could give it more control over chip supply, hardware configuration and costs, while also forcing it to take on more financing and operational responsibility.
