I think most people still underestimate how important next week could be. Trump and Xi plan to discuss AI guardrails in Washington next week, according to WSJ.
They plan to discuss how to keep powerful AI under control, including concerns about AI escaping human control, weapons acting on their own, and people using AI to build dangerous weapons. So, in short: they will discuss whether they can jointly agree on a global slowdown.
Gary Rieschel says Chinese officials believe they can fend off AI intrusion “with the Great Firewall.”
Next week could therefore fundamentally determine how the two major rivals will work in the future: against each other in competition or together in a concerted slowdown. On top of that, Chinese officials also want to know whether the talks will cover U.S. restrictions on chip sales to China.
So yeah, its gonna be a really interesting week.
