WSJ: OpenAI acquired smartphone camera startup. Glass Imaging for more than $300M.
The startup's core product, GlassAI, replaces parts of the traditional image-signal-processing pipeline with camera-specific neural networks trained on RAW sensor data.
Those networks reverse lens aberrations, sensor noise and crosstalk before images are rendered, helping compact camera modules recover more usable detail.
The agreement comes as OpenAI and Jony Ive move deeper into consumer hardware. OpenAI has already brought the io team in-house, while Glass’s role remains undisclosed.
