FT: OpenAI has put a serving US government model tester on the nonprofit board that controls the company.
Paul Christiano joins the OpenAI Foundation board and its Safety and Security Committee, and will observe the for-profit board without a vote.
He led safety research at OpenAI until 2021 and is a senior tech advisor at the Commerce Department's Center for AI Standards and Innovation.
On his own estimate, 6 months of fully automated AI research could deliver more algorithmic progress than the decade since the Transformer appeared.
