There are now bills in the US *and* the UK to ban ASI!
And Geoffrey Hinton backed it:
"We would be very foolish to develop superintelligence now ... it could lead to human extinction."
Hinton thinks our odds of extinction from AI are a COIN FLIP - his independent assessment of p(doom) is over 50%.
(He won the Nobel Prize in physics and is that Godfather of AI who quit to warn about the dangers, so he has no financial incentive to say this.)
