AlphaGenome Atlas: A High-Resolution Map of Human DNA Accelerating Biological Discovery
Today, we’re introducing AlphaGenome Atlas 🧬 an interactive platform for genomics discovery.
In 2025, @GoogleDeepMind released AlphaGenome to help decode the complex language of our DNA — but building a powerful AI model is only the first step.
AlphaGenome Atlas massively scales up AlphaGenome’s predictions, creating a catalogue of how every single letter DNA change in the human genome, 9 billion in total, affects biology.
Scientists can now access these predictions as an intuitive "zero-code" platform, meaning scientists don't need to know how to program or write lines of code. They can simply point, click, and search the world's most comprehensive database of genetic variations right from their web browser.
But how does AlphaGenome Atlas actually work?
— First, our researchers used AlphaGenome to pre-calculate the potential impact of every possible single-letter change across the human genome to create a massive 1-petabyte dataset.
— Then, that vast dataset is made easy to navigate, including through the AlphaGenome Variant Impact (AVI) score — a single, easy-to-read number that indicates how impactful a variant could be and which biological processes it disrupts.
Why is this such a breakthrough?
Our DNA is made of billions of letters, and a single "typo" can break important biological switches. Sifting through billions of letters to find the variations that actually influence biology usually takes years of laboratory trial-and-error. Now, scientists can instantly prioritize research targets, identify key variants found in rare genetic mysteries and unearth variants associated with common traits.
