In the current AI talent war, everyone is focused on the big numbers (alleged compensation packages). It misses the bigger picture: the cultural shift following the DeepSeek moment. META is the American leader in open science (publications) and open source (Llama). Both OpenAI and Anthropic are notoriously not open. AI talent moving into META is an AI talent that embraces OPENNESS. That's great for the industry. That's great for science. That's even great for safety concerns (more transparency, more eyes on the problems, more solutions). That's a trend worth celebrating. OpenAI releasing an open-weights model later this summer (as promised below) might shift that balance.
