Vibe Check: Duet—Anthropic's Always-on Agent
Every 获得早期试用权限,评测 Anthropic 今日以研究预览形式推出的常驻个人智能体 Claude Duet。
Two weeks ago, I was mostly a ChatGPT person.
What kept me in OpenAI’s ecosystem was the products around the models. I think it has the best harness in Codex (see my definitive history), the best computer use, and (until Gemini 4) the best writing models. And I’ve come to rely on my Dot, OpenAI’s always-on agent inside ChatGPT, to orchestrate much of my daily work—triaging my day, following up on conversations, and moving things forward without waiting for me to ask.
Lately, though, my Dot has become less proactive, and I’ve noticed it start to lose tasks. Last week, I sent it off to do my taxes, and it didn’t finish and didn’t alert me.
So when Every got early access to Claude Duet—Anthropic’s own always-on personal agent, launching today in research preview—two weeks ago, I wanted to see if it could take on Dot’s role and do it any better.
I’ve been very impressed—so much so that I’ve landed closer to 50/50 between ChatGPT and Claude. It’s the most time I’ve spent with Anthropic in close to a year.
Claude Duet is Anthropic’s entry into the already crowded personal agent category occupied by Dot, Meta’s Muse, X’s Grok Bot, and Instinct. All are in pursuit of the same future where agents run around the clock, message you when something needs your attention, keep working between conversations, and act on your behalf.
In a break from Anthropic’s usual pattern of bolting new products onto its existing app, Claude Duet has its own app on iOS, Android, and the web, separate from Claude. It runs on Opus 5.5, the model Anthropic released last month, and Pro and Max subscribers get first access off the waitlist. Anthropic pitches it as a chief of staff for knowledge workers and small business owners. It’ll plan a trip or find you a haircut, too, though the company says those personal use cases still have rough edges.
Claude Duet is the first personal agent I’d call a pro tool. It splits recurring topics into their own channels, keeps a running list of what it’s working on and what it needs from me, and can edit docs, slides, designs, and dashboards and keep them current without leaving the app. It sends suggestions I actually want. For now, it can see the Claude sessions on my computers, but it can’t direct them; its email drafts are worse than Dot’s; and its scheduled runs can’t reach my custom connectors. There’s no real voice mode yet, just transcription. Still, if you’re a Claude subscriber who does knowledge work, get on the waitlist.
